Eco-Club
We meet fortnightly to discuss how we can all play our part in taking action to slow climate change and become more sustainable.
Our work is in line with the ten prioritised topics from Eco-schools helping us to achieve our Green Flag award.
The Ten Topics:
We have been busy planting a wild flower garden to encourage butterflies, bees and other insects to visit our grounds. Our new bird feeders, insect houses and bug hotels all help to make our grounds a have for wildlife.
Eco-club are making sure we use our energy wisely. They ensure lights are switched off, doors are closed to conserve heat and our staff are thinking about electric cars and solar panels.
We are a Fairtrade school and encourage all products at school to have been brought to us fairly. We always fundraise for an environmental charity as well as being members of the local Wildlife Group.
The outdoors are great places to relax and be clam. Our wildlife area encourages us all to take time out and appreciate the environment around us.
We haven taken action to improve our community through litter-picking and taking part in the Great Big School Clean.
Recycling plastic in the school is a priority. We are all aware of the damaging effects plastic has on our marine life. Our U-Dane performance allowed us all time to reflect on how dangerous plastic can be.
Our grounds are an excellent space for outdoor learning. We encourage children to go outside everyday and are constantly trying to upkeep them for all to enjoy.
Some of us live a long way away from school so walking is not always an option. However, there is plenty of roadside parking and the area right outside school gets very busy. It would be nice to see parents park further away and stretch their legs for drop off and collection.
We have new recycling bins, composters and the children in Class1 love to turn old boxes into creations!
Water butts collect water for us to re-use in our planters and role play areas. Eco -club monitor that taps are turned off and our water usage each month to make sure there are no leaks.
